Lawn Watering Needs

How to water seedlings

Here is a tricky part when seedlings are involved because there are two factors that will affect its growth. One is, if you use too much water the seeds may drown and rot. Second, too little and they might fail to grow, or they may die once they start to germinate.

The best option for you is to moisten the soil. Just the right amount of water can help your seed grow. Also, in addition you can cover your seeds with a loose plastic. This will create a mini greenhouse environment that holds in moisture and heat. Remove the plastic every once in a while, so air can come in.

Remember to always keep your soil moist even if you see small leaves appear.

When to water full grown plants

Now that your plant is full grown, the question now is do you need to water it every day? And if so, during what time?

First, keep in mind that you need to water the soil and not the plant directly. Because water evaporates away when directed to the plant. When you water the soil, moisture is retained and helps the plant lock in nutrients it needs from the soil.

If you have your plants in a pot, you need to be more careful when watering them. They are more dependent on our watering because the roots cannot seek out water on their own. Water them regularly. Also, you can use a method where you can stand pots in saucers and fill. But do not let them stand in pots for too long, because it can damage the roots. You can stand pots for half an hour or so. This method helps a common problem-wet surface but dry underneath.

Watering plants is best done early mornings. This gives the plant enough time to absorb the water and get it ready to convert it to energy when the sun gets hotter. If you cannot water your plants at that time, you can water them early in the evening. But never water them during hot afternoons.

During Spring

Spring, the start of the growing season. Your plants are starting to come alive after a long winter.

During this season, you need to water your plants more to make up for the increase in temperature and more hours of daylight.

During springtime, gradually increase water frequency. This is the time that you need to pay close attention because this is the adjustment period for your plants. If you notice some wilt, you need to water and mist more frequently. If your plant is under the sun and you are watering daily or every other day, you can help retain moisture by adding rocks to the top of the soil.

During Summer

The warm weather has finally kicked in. Gorgeous sun, flourishing trees, and a blooming garden. But summer is not always fun under the sun. The extreme heat can pose a problem to your plants. This is the time that your watering schedule should be adjusted.

Here is the best time that you water your plants more frequently. As mentioned, water your plants during early mornings. If the weather gets too hot, you can also water your plants early in the evening. You can have a sprinkler installed too, it can help in the watering especially if you are at work.

During Autumn

During fall, the weather continues to be dry. It can become very stressful for most plants. When you water your plants during this season make sure that the soil is well saturated. The best way to do that is with a sprinkler or a hose. You can water your plants thoroughly twice a month during the mid-late fall.

Plants need adequate water to prepare them for the winter. You can water them every other week to a monthly basis throughout the season. If you have added new plants to your garden, they need extra attention. Their roots have not yet developed a substantial root system and by helping them during this season will pay a big dividend next season.

During Winter

Do we need to water plants during the winter? The answer is yes. We all know that during winter there are dry conditions that can damage the plant more the cold itself. The cold winter air is dry and the winds can remove water from plants faster than the roots can absorb.

How do we do this? Well, make sure that all your plants are well watered before the ground freezes. You can water deeply once a day to prepare the plants for the cold weather.

Water the plants if the temperature is 40 Degrees Celsius. Do not water if there is snow or ice on the ground. Also, you can water during the day, especially early morning to give time for the plants to absorb it before the temperature drops during the evening.

No matter the weather, always remember to always check your plants and remember to water them frequently to maintain the aesthetic of your lawn.
